Karen came to yoga to alleviate back pain and stress from long hours at work. Her passion for yoga grew, and in 2013 she decided to travel to India and Nepal for 6 months, where she completed her teaching training in Sivananda Hatha Yoga.
She went on to teach yoga and meditation in Sydney and Fiji before returning to the UK. In 2015 she took further teacher training with Sarah Powers in Yin and Yang Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation.
Yoga and meditation are an integral part of her life, and she loves to share with others the benefits for body, mind and spirit.
Karen teaches Hatha Yoga and Yin Yoga.

YogaVenue’s Hatha Yoga classes offer a gentler, usually slower-paced style of practice. They include none or few of the Sun Salutations which are a feature of Vinyasa classes.
Hatha Yoga is a very broad term referring to the physical practice of Yoga asanas (postures) and the style and particular focus of the class may vary. Hatha Yoga classes provide an opportunity to stretch, unwind, and release tension, offering a good counterpoint to both busy lifestyles and cardio workouts. In Hatha Yoga we bring awareness to our mind, body and breath as we explore ways of creating balance and uniting opposites. In our physical bodies we develop a balance of strength and flexibility. We also learn to balance our effort and surrender in each pose. You may leave class feeling longer, looser, and more relaxed. Expect downward facing dogs, warrior poses, gentle twists, backbends and forward bends.
This class is perfect if you are new to Yoga or returning after a break, as well as if you have a regular Yoga practice. The teacher will offer alternative, gentler modifications where needed.
Hatha classes are 75 minutes long. All ability levels welcome. Classes are held at room temperature. Music is played in these classes.
Yin Yoga focuses on passive stretches, holding asanas (postures) for 3-5 minutes each to work gently into muscles and connective tissues, and allowing the mind to slow down. Yin Yoga releases stress, elongates muscles that we often ignore, and creates balance to our more vigorous yang practice. This class is designed to increase flexibility and joint mobility. We will stretch from head to toe while finding a bit of focus, patience and release in the mind as well as the body. Yin Yoga is particularly helpful during times of stress and fatigue and is the perfect complement all our other Yoga classes. It's also perfect for you if you run or cycle a lot and suffer from stiffness in your lower back. From stressed students to athletes seeking greater flexibility or beginners who have never put a foot on a yoga mat, this type of Yoga will help you release mind and body. Props are used in this class to help support the body while in postures to aid release and relaxation.
