East Cowley and Summertown Local Favs

By Caroline Gozzi

Check out some of YV's favorite local spots and things to do in the Summertown and East Cowley Rd area. Pick a neighborhood and make a day of it... catch an early yoga class at YV, grab a coffee, shop at the farmers' market, meet for brunch, and stay for pizza!  With each area having it's own charm and must-do attractions, it's definitely worth the visit!

Summertown Favorites:

1. Alfonso Gelateria
This has to be number one on the list, no doubt the best Oxford in the whole of ice cream and their stall is perfectly situated for post yoga visit. Regular and vegan options available and always very friendly, a little hint, you can check if the stall is there by looking out of the window in the ladies changing room (as discovered by our son!).

2. Gatineau
As you can tell we strongly believe moving and eating well is important for a good quality of life. Independently owed and an institution in Oxford, if you are looking for amazing bread, pastries, there is only one place to go and that is Gatineau.

3. The Kitchen Food Company
Opened at the same time as YV Summertown this is a great place to go for brunch or a spot of lunch, the deli downstairs is pretty good as well. Quite a few YV team meetings have been held here!

4. Daute Books
We can’t not have a book shop! Great kids section and always amazing for recommendations and getting you the latest books! Lovely to have a book shop back in Summertown.

5. Summertown Farmers' Market
The perfect place to go after Sunday’s 9am class in Summertown. Food, plants and much more.

Cowley Road Favorites:

1. Mostro Coffee & Truck Store
Who doesn’t want to listen to music and drink great coffee? Mostro is most definitely the place to be and where you will find us on our coffee breaks.

2. Marios Pizza
An Institution! Is old school and if you are looking for a plate of pasta, this is where you need to go.

3. Zaneta Lichnova
There is no cooler place to get your hair done than Zaneta’s. Great stylists and always up for a good gossip!

4. The East Oxford Farmers' Market
Has been voted one of the best Farmers' markets in the country! Well positioned for a post yoga class visit on Saturday mornings. Great bread and veggies!

5. Wild Honey
For all your healthfood, natural hair and beauty and home goods Wild Honey is the place to go. Like us, Wild Honey started off in East Oxford and now have branches in Summertown and Jericho. The team is so friendly and if you ever are looking for someone or have a suggestion for something to stock they are all ears.
