Flow, Rest and Release Yoga is a slow, passive practice of largely seated or lying postures (asanas). Props such as blocks, bolsters and blankets are used to support the body in each asana to help both body and mind to find ease and release. In our Flow, Rest and Release classes, you’ll be invited to let go of doing and instead to receive each of the restful asanas. These are typically held for between 5 and 15 minutes with a steady, natural breath. The practice allows the mind to become quieter and the body to soften, open and relax deeply. In this restful state, the nervous system is given the chance to shift into ‘repair and renew’ mode, making Flow, Rest and Release Yoga a profoundly nurturing practice.

There is a strong meditative element to Flow, Rest and Release classes at YogaVenue and each session will give you the chance to experience being present in the moment. Don’t worry if you don’t have much (or any) experience of meditation; our teachers will offer techniques for you to try and will take you through short guided meditations and relaxations. Expect periods of silence where you’ll have the opportunity to explore and develop your own practice. Flow, Rest and Release yoga is beneficial for everybody. It can be particularly helpful during times of stress and fatigue and for those working with physical challenges. It is the perfect complement to other, more dynamic yoga practices.
