YogaVenue Newsletter, May 2014
It is clear that we are in the most verdant time of the year, the blossoms are still with us and as we have had so much rain the greens of the trees and shrubs are amazing in their subtle shades, and (most days) the temperature is rising.Generally as the weather gets warmer our bodies respond by coming out of the Winter slumber ready to deepen our practice again. We have had an exciting couple of months. The weekend workshop with Esak Garcia went really well with people from all over the world coming to Oxford – literally people coming from the USA, Ireland, Netherlands, London as well as nearer home. Our in-house workshops have been well attended and students seem to be enjoying exploring deeper certain aspects of practice. For example, some students are exploring their backbends after classes to open the front body further and others are ‘playing’ with inversions, like Crow pose, and suddenly noticing that Oxford is overflowing with crows and their cousins Jackdaws and Rooks! Where were they before I did Crow pose? There is an influx of new Yogis to the studio and we welcome them too.
Hydration
The weather is getting warmer and it is important to come to class hydrated. It is as important if you are new to Yoga and equally so if you are experienced. As it warms up outside but we still stay mainly inactive at the desk or in the house, it is easy to get dehydrated during the day and come to class not having drunk enough. Water, juices, coconut waters will all help replace electrolytes and minerals. Coming hydrated to class is more beneficial then drinking a lot in class, which can make you feel nauseous and heavy in your practice.
