I practise hot yoga all year round. There are so many benefits, instant ones and some that take a few years of regular practice to come about.
I personally love the heat. It makes me slow down and focus. It seeps into my muscles and relaxes them. It feels like it oils the joints. I sweat buckets, all that stuff the body needs to get rid of.
But there is something about going to a hot class on the first, colder September days. Most of us welcome the routine- whether that’s at school or at work- that September brings after the summer breaks. Routine is so welcome but sometimes we can drop back into a rut. The rain starts, the days are getting shorter, the mind settles back into the old grooves…. The heat in the classes reminds me of happy summer holidays, instantly relaxing those tight neck and shoulder muscles that start tensing due to the chilly weather. It helps me find my inner resource, a ‘happy place’ that I can draw on to relax my body and find peace of mind.
If you haven’t practised in the hot room before, give it a go, try something new, and enjoy the countless benefits.
